Holidays in Gran Canaria

The main tourist area in Gran Canaria is concentrated on the south of the island. Along this stretch of coast lie the resorts of Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles, both sharing the wonderful golden sandy beach, one of the best throughout the whole of the Canaries, and backed by many large hotels and apartments complexes. The popular beaches, with their calm shallow waters and convenient facilities may get crowded, but the stunning sand dunes of Maspalomas provide secluded spots for sunbathing, making this area a favorite spot for nudists. Where Maspalomas is fairly upmarket with a relaxing atmosphere, Playa de Ingles is a lively haven for British tourists, catering to the masses with English pubs and bars. Further west lays the resort of Puerto Rico, the sunniest resort on Gran Canaria, with an imported beach, excellent watersports facilities and party atmosphere. For those in search of some real relaxation, the smaller resorts on Gran Canaria offer a slower pace, such as San Agustin and Playa del Cura.
